How to Organize Medical Appointments

Parents and caretakers know the importance of having all the medical paperwork organized for their loved ones.
One of the main concerns for parents of children with special needs is how to make sure that they stay healthy, and this requires them to visit a many doctors, aside from their trusty pediatrician, to ensure they have the attention they need in order to stay healthy and up to date with their treatments. This means they have to take several trips to the hospital to make appointments with doctor, schedule dates and organize results and medical informs. And while for some it is like second nature, many parents and caretakers don’t know how to organize and prepare for medical appointments. That’s why I’m here to share some knowledge on this fact!

Work most urgent to routine
While some appointments come up at last minute, truth is most of the time, you’ll have time to schedule them according to the pressing factor. Urgent appointments need to be put first on the list, and working your way down to the ones that are common occurrence, like monthly pediatrician appointments, for example. This rules applies to exams like MRIs and blood tests.

Prepare ahead
Caretakers surely know when they are in a hurry, sometimes things can be forgotten. Remember to plan ahead of time and pack everything you’ll need in order to make sure they have all they need at hand. Working your way up from toiletries to snacks and everything in between, check that every element is ready to use at any time.

Get a folder
Most of the time, people don’t think folders are important for medical appointments, but they actually are an elemental piece of your loved one’s health. In there we should keep calendars, informs and test results for doctors to quickly look at if needed. They also help you stay on top of everything right away and to take quick notes.

Keep copies at hand: They can come in handy if you have to leave some of them in the doctor’s office. These should be organized and filed correctly if you want them to work for you the right way. You can also scan them and have them in your mail so you can send them to doctors if they request them.
