Reactive Attachment Disorder

Reactive Attachment Disorder is a condition that affects the way children interact with their parents.

Powerful as they might seem, children in their early years are as fragile as a baby regarding emotional growth and their need of parent’s attention. They are very sensitive and strong emotions can affect them more than you think. As parents, it’s okay to make a mistake and get stressed when raising children, but you should never do them harm, they don’t deserve it.

Things are even worse when they don’t get enough affection from their parents, which further damages children and causes them to become distant, doubtful and silent towards a new family with good intentions. Reactive attachment disorder (RAD) is a very severe disorder that can affect children in the way they interact with others in a social environment.

Children with RAD have a distorted way of interpreting relationships that may cause them difficulties in the future. This disorder doesn’t have enough coverage, and there’s not much clarity about the aftermath it has in the later life.

This disorder has a set of symptoms that go with children being withdrawn, emotionless, who show no interest or capability to interact with peers. RAD is very rare as most of its symptoms also show in children with another type of disorders, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The only treatment known to work correctly is based on increasing the sensitivity of the caregiver to establish active connections with the children to change their perception of empathy.

Reactive attachment disorder can become a serious problem for your children in their future interactions and social engagement. The risk of depression in children with this disorder is also a possibility to consider, making RAD a grave concern for parents. If you want your children to improve, you need to show them how much love you can give. Autism Soccer is one of the best places for special needs children, put your trust in their hands, contact them and give your loved one the chance to heal.
The best treatment for this disorder is giving the children an environment filled with love and caring.

5 Misconceptions about ADHD in Children

ADHD is often confused with rebellious attitudes in children.

There are many disorders that children suffer from in their early stages of growth, the Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of those. This chronic condition includes a combination of symptoms, such as attention difficulties, hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior. This disorder is well understood today, but it still raises doubts among parents and people in general. The truth is that there are many misconceptions related to this disorder, which causes its stigmatization.

Here’s a list of 5 misconceptions people still have related to ADHD in children:

  1. ADHD is more likely to occur in boys. False. The Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder can happen to both boys and girls. This misconception arises due to the number of adult men with the disorder, making girls under-diagnosed.
  2. Having ADHD means being hyperactive. This disorder is not only about hyperactive behavior in children; in most of the cases, they also show this attitude, that why it's understandable that people make the wrong assumptions. Most children are just inattentive and just lack attention.
  3. Bad parenting causes ADHD in children. The causes of ADHD or mental disorders like ASD are difficult to identify. There are many factors to take into consideration that can’t be limited to emotional neglecting or lack of parenting. Each case differs from one to another, so there’s no way to be sure of this.
  4. Sugar and food coloring trigger ADHD. It is true that sugar and food coloring trigger certain behavior in children, but it is in no way related to causing ADHD. Also, avoiding sugar in children with ADHD is not a treatment/cure for this disorder. See a professional on the matter before taking or adding certain foods to their diet.
  5. Hyperactive children are likely to have ADHD. All children are very energetic; this doesn’t mean they have any condition whatsoever. To determine the possibility of ADHD in children more conditions must be present; therefore, a diagnosis could tell whether or not the child has this disorder.

ADHD creates complications and affects the performance of children in general. The bright side is that this disorder has a treatment and the symptoms lessen with age.  Sadly, there are cases where this deficit disorder doesn’t fade and stays with the children. If your kids are struggling to fit in school because of ADHD, the best thing you could do is get assistance from experts to help you out. 5 Traits of Autistic Children and How to Improve Them

There are many traits autistic kids have, make sure you know how to act accordingly to each one.

The subject of autism has been under constant discussion among specialists on the matter. The complexity of the Autism Spectrum Disorder is the primary reason for the continuous studies on children to see how it develops on them. There can’t be two kids who share the same symptoms or disabilities: this is what makes ASD a challenge for experts.

There are so many different characteristics, and each one of these has certain ways to be worked. Check these five traits in autistic children and the best tools to improve them:

  • Excessive honesty: Most of the problems kids have with their peers are caused by the way they openly express what they think about others, this causes uncomfortable situations. To avoid this attitude, talk to your children and explain to them how to control their honesty with others.

  • Unawareness or absence: The lack of interest in children is one of the reasons social interaction becomes a difficulty for kids, causing them to be felt out in their group. This is hard to work out, but you could try telling them to focus on the place they’re in, whenever you need it. Practice with them back home with concentration games to make them aware of the situation they’re in at he moment.

  • Reading comprehension: They have a hard time with certain symbolisms or expressions like the use of sarcasm or metaphors. The solution is to explain the meaning of certain symbols or to tell your children to ask if they do not understand certain phrases or writing styles when reading.

  • Motor activities: Activities that require excessive coordination are a challenge for them, like printing, coloring and gluing. One possible way to solve this is to train their motor skills with crafting activities (*).

  • Inability to follow orders: It’s not that they’re rebellious, children with ASD have problems listening and paying attention in general. You need to train their focusing skills to increase their concentration.

There are many different ways to help them in their various traits, working on them won’t erase the symptoms but improve the way they deal with these. Autism Soccer is becoming an alternative for children to help them in their development, contact them to help your kids develop.

There are different ways to help children in their growth, look for the one that adapts to your kids.

The point of doing this is to watch over your children and make sure they’re not accessing inappropriate websites or exposing on the internet. There’s a limit for this too, you can be logged in at all times. Talk with them before allowing the access on the internet: explain the risks of the internet, how he must stay out of risks. Mother’s Love: The Value of Caring

A mother's love can prove to be the answer in opening their channels of communication. Don't give up!

As a parent, you are aware of the meaning of caring for someone else more than yourself. Your children are the world to you, they’re the light of your days and you’d do anything to protect and to give them a bright future for their dreams to come true. There’s a kind of love that goes beyond this and that is without a doubt: the love of a mother for their children.

How come this bond between children and their mother is so strong? There is a 9-month period that says it all. Studies have shown that after the first months, the mother develops a mental bond with the baby that’s growing inside. Imagine what it’s like for a mother who loves their children to feel like she can’t do anything about them, the helplessness of not being able to understand what’s going on. Autism makes the first years of any marriage a very complicated and delicate situation and sometimes, even you as a parent feel like you’re not doing enough for your special needs children. The reason is mainly because they don’t give positive responses and are very withdrawn about their feelings in general.

If you notice the changes in the behavior of your children and you’re aware of the meaning of the characteristics autistic children have, you’ll surely know this won’t be an easy task for you nor your husband or family members. There might be times where discussions around the topic will increase and silly fights will somehow become bigger than they actually are. In these moments, you have to be patient and think of your children and remember it’s not their fault, they were born that way and they deserve to be loved the same.

Eventually, the tensions and fights will cease and the storm will just stop. After managing to get a treatment adjusted to the necessities of your children, you’ll have succeeded into embracing your children’s special condition. This is the power love has in mothers, not anyone can love their children more than they do, they might as well be the main reason for awareness to even exist.

Nothing is more important than the care you give to your children, and if you actually do want to try all you can, you should contact the people of Autism Soccer to get a greater improvement in their communication skills. Do it for their happiness and for a better future for them.
To love them is to set them freem don't try to control everything they do. Try to relax a little.

Autistic Dreams: Make a Sleep Journal

It's common that autistic kids have a hard time to sleep properly, get them to an expert inmediately.

Sleep behavior in kids is already complicated as a standalone; kids tend to stay up until late hours at night playing games, running around or watching TV. No matter the causes of the lack of sleep, kids are very active in general. In order to create a sleep time routine, rules must be set and there’s a chance the kid won’t accept them at first. Eventually, it will become a custom to sleep at a set hour at nights and to wake up early.

With the case of special needs children, things can be more challenging for parents as ASD children have a bigger chance of developing sleeping disorders at a young age (between 40%-80% of the cases). This is not only a concern for the kids, but for the parents and family as well. There are many theories to explain the lack of sleep in autistic kids, but the main reason is believed to be the fact that they’re highly sensitive to stimuli during sleep, making any noise an interruption.

These sleep patterns are hard to deal with since the reason for that sensibility can’t be cured. Treatment would be a good idea depending on the extension of the spectrum, so checking a specialist would be the best decision. Lack of sleep affects the brain in severe ways, and it’s even worse if it’s a young kid because of the fact that he’s growing. Kids who usually have interrupted dream-time develop these conditions: bad mood or aggression, poor learning skills, depression, and even worse behavioral problems.

Making a sleep journal for your kids could be an alternate solution to help them out. As the kids wake up, ask details about their sleep; if they slept well and had dreams, or if they woke up several times during the night and mostly anything that can be written down helps. The reason of this is to keep track of how often they sleep. That’s something important to have when going to therapists, as they use this information to provide guidelines and better strategies for the kids. There are some other options you can follow for the sake of your kids:
  • Create the habit of sleeping: Try to establish a time for sleeping and make sure the kids get used to it.
  • Put some soft music: Try some music in the room to relax your children, read a book for him or tell a story.
  • Turn any distraction off: Anything like the TV or the video games.
  • Avoid sugar and sweets: This is a no-no before going to bed.

Not having any sleep does no good, and leaves children tired and irritable during the day; do the best to help them out. Take them to a pediatrician to check on them. If you put them to practice some sports, their mind will be distracted while making exercise, that’ll sure get them tired when they return home. With Autism Soccer, you’ll have that covered, they do the best to help special needs children in their growth while practicing and learning in a team.
Keep a journal of their sleep time, write down any dreams and interruptions they might have while sleeping.

Personal Tutoring: Should You Try It?

Autism children need a little push to learn and express their knowledge, a personal tutor can bring that out.

Every kid has a period of his life where it’s easier to learn and develop cognitive skills; their young brains have this to their advantage. Autism children depend on this period of time to gain social and communication skills in order to learn and grow, all that knowledge will set the basis for their future as independent members of society. School is one of the best ways to accomplish this, but not all special needs children can adapt to the way schools work. Kids with severe autism can have a really hard time dealing with others and completing tasks or assignments, even if the school is specialized for special needs children.

If your kids aren’t enjoying being part of the school’s environment after all your attempts, do not hesitate and take them out until you’re able to control their tantrums. But meanwhile, they’re going to need someone to look after their education; a personal tutor. Personal tutors might be the answer for all autistic parents’ problems, they’re capable of teaching and dealing with the kids’ unexpected actions and any situations they can cause. Here are some reasons why there’s no losing by having a personal tutor at home:

Control: This is one of the main pros of having a personal tutor in the house. He/she can look after your children teachings while the parents are there, checking on them. The tutor needs time alone with the kids as well, so they share some trust with the tutor and open up to him/her.

Teachings: A well-prepared tutor can teach them all the basics any school have, with the comfort of being in the house. This positively helps the kids, as they feel better and less stressed than at the school. Also, there’s no losing when it comes to communicating, as the tutor will be in charge of helping the kids to express themselves.

Annotations: The tutor can be asked to write down any progress or changes the kids start showing, and keep them as an evaluation of their growth. Keeping things like these are essential to look for tools related to the skills the kids are developing.

Personal tutors are a viable choice for your kids if they can’t adapt to a classroom filled with other children, which is very normal depending on how severe is the ASD of your kids. But don’t let them be indoors all day, this may be harmful to them as well. Put them to do something different, like practicing sports. My recommendation is that you contact the people of Autism Soccer, they are the best choice your kids can have as they offer the proper environment for special needs children.
Special needs children have the tendency to get distracted, make sure their environment doesn't add to this.

A Baby’s On the Way!

Having another child will not be easy, but if you did it once, you can do it again.

You watched your children grow and gave them love in the process, now they’re old enough to understand most of the things that happen in the house: Dad’s job and how he ends up tired after a long day, Mom’s hard work and her responsibilities at the office. Your kids are also aware of their ASD, and they keep on dealing with it. You start to think that this might be an opportunity for them to take care of their little brothers or sisters, so you decide to talk it out with your kids and see how they’ll take it.

Having a baby will bring more responsibilities for the members of the family; looking after the mother will be the priority now and most of the attention will go towards that baby. Besides, there’s a thing that needs to be worked on: your kids and how they’ll feel about this matter. They might not find this a good idea and be mistrustful about it, mostly because the attention towards them won’t be the same like it used to be.

Special needs children are very straightforward when being in confidence; your kids will probably speak their mind if the baby subject is brought up, you must listen to how they feel about this and try to make them see the bigger picture of this decision. Here’s some advice on how to prepare them for what’s to come:

Explain: It’s not like they’ll be left out or forgotten because of the baby, let them know how much they mean to you and that nothing’s going to change that feeling. Deep inside, they may be a little jealous, but they actually want to have a little brother or sister to play with.

Make plans: Encourage your kids to do things for the baby; like looking for names for him/her, buying clothes and setting up a room for the baby.

Communication:  Let them talk to the baby through your belly, it may seem silly but this way of communication is proven to work. The baby is actually hearing (not clearly, but a dim voice) what you’re saying. This kind of bonding helps your kid and the baby for when he/she finally arrives.

Preparing for a new member can be quite a challenge for all the family members, and even more to your kids, but if you properly set things up for both the baby and them things won’t be so difficult in the future. Let your kids have some time for themselves with his usual activities, like the ones the people of Autism Soccer offer. They have the best team, ready to help your kids grow practicing sports!
Talk with your kid about the baby, the child will understand and fully accept his/her new brother or sister.
