Autism Movement Therapy

This therapy helps them improve their ability to learn through movement sequence and patterns, tempo and rhythm.

When it comes down to choosing ways to help your children, either as a parent or relative, you always seek for the best. We know how difficult it is to see children with autism struggle because of their condition, but there’s always a way to support them. Today, we’ll show you an alternative therapy that has proved to be very effective: the Autism Movement Therapy.

Joanne Lara: the mind behind AMT

This therapy was first developed by Joanne Lara, a severe education specialist teacher with a master in special education. She was a professional dancer whose advocacy focused on improving the lives of autistic individuals, helping them through movement and musical lessons. All her efforts turned towards the foundation of Autism Movement Therapy.
Joanne is an adjunct professor at National University in LA, California, where she helped in the design of the Autism Certificate. Lara teaches Autism Movement Therapy classes in Van Nuys, CA, where she has private consultation practices of her AMT. She’s also produced a documentary called Generation A: Portraits of Autism and the Arts.

The Organization

Autism Movement Therapy, Inc is an organization (nonprofit) that focuses on supporting those with neurological disabilities and peers on the autism spectrum. The program follows a structured musical method based on re-mapping, a sensory integration technique. Also, there’s the Positive Behavior Support, a strategy that aids individuals with the disorder in the development of their speech and language.

Not only this organization seeks for helping individuals improve their quality of life. AMT also seeks for expanding the awareness and advocacy to raise the voices and dignity of the autism community. As a nonprofit organization, their value can be seen in the many testimonials which are the living proof of its success.
If you’re willing to support causes like this one, you just have to access their website and collaborate. No matter how little your donation is, it will help.
Autism is a complex disorder that demands support and attention. When your children get the assistance and love they need, the odds are they’ll have a better outcome in life. Autism Soccer is a nonprofit organization that puts passion and love in what they do, so if you’re looking for a place for your children to improve their skills, then your choice is to contact them!
This is a sensory integration strategy that can help with the development of children with autism.

Mathematics and Special Needs Children

Teaching the basics to your kids can be hard at first, but special needs children catch on quick.

There are necessary signatures taught in the pre-kindergarten that are the pillars for the growth of children. From interactive games to assisted learning, the spectrum these tools cover is determinant for the kids' development in their future. Ensuring quality learning environments is essential for the preparation of children as they reach elementary school.
As they reach school, the difficulty and demands increase with the addition of new subjects like science, reading, spelling activities and social studies. The pressure increases progressively as the children reach higher grades than before. Mathematics are present from the very first class for children.
Math comes off as an easy task for autistic children as they focus on their spatial skills. When facing a math problem, certain patterns of their brains activate, specifically in the region used for face processing. Their way of processing those challenges is more sophisticated than their peers.
In their process of solving mathematical problems, most of them just use the conventional procedures for solving the problems, but some children use a strategy known as decomposition, a complicated process to solve math problems by breaking the problem into a set of easier arithmetic questions.
There’s also a misconception related to the IQs of special needs children, mostly because they show average results in the test, and these results are not compared to their capabilities. The mistake of those results is because children with autism have a different way of using their brain, and most of the requirements of an IQ test are based on verbal comprehension and reasoning.
Children with autism might lack certain skills non-autistic children have, but this doesn’t mean they don’t excel in other areas. They are accomplished by developing and improving their behavior with the effort and support from their parents. Autism Soccer is aware of the capabilities special needs children have; their goal is to make them grow while teaching them fundamental soccer skills. Contact them to get assisted by this team of experts.
Mathematics develop rationality and logic reasoning in children.

Personal Tutoring: Should You Try It?

Autism children need a little push to learn and express their knowledge, a personal tutor can bring that out.

Every kid has a period of his life where it’s easier to learn and develop cognitive skills; their young brains have this to their advantage. Autism children depend on this period of time to gain social and communication skills in order to learn and grow, all that knowledge will set the basis for their future as independent members of society. School is one of the best ways to accomplish this, but not all special needs children can adapt to the way schools work. Kids with severe autism can have a really hard time dealing with others and completing tasks or assignments, even if the school is specialized for special needs children.

If your kids aren’t enjoying being part of the school’s environment after all your attempts, do not hesitate and take them out until you’re able to control their tantrums. But meanwhile, they’re going to need someone to look after their education; a personal tutor. Personal tutors might be the answer for all autistic parents’ problems, they’re capable of teaching and dealing with the kids’ unexpected actions and any situations they can cause. Here are some reasons why there’s no losing by having a personal tutor at home:

Control: This is one of the main pros of having a personal tutor in the house. He/she can look after your children teachings while the parents are there, checking on them. The tutor needs time alone with the kids as well, so they share some trust with the tutor and open up to him/her.

Teachings: A well-prepared tutor can teach them all the basics any school have, with the comfort of being in the house. This positively helps the kids, as they feel better and less stressed than at the school. Also, there’s no losing when it comes to communicating, as the tutor will be in charge of helping the kids to express themselves.

Annotations: The tutor can be asked to write down any progress or changes the kids start showing, and keep them as an evaluation of their growth. Keeping things like these are essential to look for tools related to the skills the kids are developing.

Personal tutors are a viable choice for your kids if they can’t adapt to a classroom filled with other children, which is very normal depending on how severe is the ASD of your kids. But don’t let them be indoors all day, this may be harmful to them as well. Put them to do something different, like practicing sports. My recommendation is that you contact the people of Autism Soccer, they are the best choice your kids can have as they offer the proper environment for special needs children.
Special needs children have the tendency to get distracted, make sure their environment doesn't add to this.
