Should I Trust My Kid to Someone?

It could be your mother, your aunt or even a professional caretaker. Only make sure that they're aware and know how to deal with your child's behavior.

As time passes, the way we raise and teach our children has changed so much. The customs and methods used today are nothing like in comparison to the ones used 40 years ago. Parents have set their eyes on making sure children grow in the best environment possible, giving them the best tools for their future. Having so many options can make it easier for parents to help their children develop in a society that demands excellence, especially for special needs children.

Parents need a break: Raising children with ASD can be somehow challenging and even more if parents are not prepared for the task. You love your children, but sometimes you feel like it’s too much to take. In these cases, having someone to trust your kid could be useful if you feel overwhelmed and feel like needing a break but is it really a good idea to trust your kid to someone? As a parent, you might have your doubts at first. Let me show you reasons why trusting your kid to someone can be the solution of your problems for you and your kid.

Caretakers: Contacting a specialized caretaker can be the ultimate solution. Their main role is to give you a break from being a parent while giving your kids the attention needed and looking out for them. As a parent, it might do well to prepare a notebook with information (emergency numbers to contact, medication schedule) and tips about your kids’ behavior, the caretaker will appreciate it and take it into account. Besides that, a good caretaker can manage the situation properly if things are set up the correct way.

Support the caretaker in everything he needs, but don’t be invasive, remember you’re the one needing a break in this moment, go out and give some time to yourself.

At this point, you must be thinking you’re not doing bad enough for needing someone to help you out, but it’s not that way. You need to look for yourself too, and after having a break, you can return filled with energy and love for your children. Need some extra time? You can count on the people of Autism Soccer, they’ll give you some while putting your children in shape for their future.
Call at mornings and after dinner to check how are your kids doing.

Are You Listening to What Your Child Is Saying?

In most of the cases, he acts like that just to get your attention, don't ignore him.

Let’s face it, being a good parent is not as easy as it looks: having to work to maintain your family, pay the bills, keeping everything under control and at the same time being an example and raising your children. Sounds like a challenge, right? It can be sometimes, but you need to keep in mind that you’re doing all this for the future of your kids, sometimes it can feel like you can’t pull this all together, but as a matter of fact you can. You’ll do everything for them, because you love them.

While watching your children grow, there are times that you may feel like you don’t really understand what’s going on in their minds. Sometimes they act in ways that make you lose your mind, but those moments are crucial to understanding what he’s trying to say. Autistic children have their own way of communicating, it’s not like having autism defines them as such, is just a part of who they are.

Most of them communicate non-verbally when trying to express what their likes or dislikes are. If he hates being in a certain place, he’ll probably just withdraw from that moment, showing no emotions whatsoever. If he enjoyed that cake you bought, you won’t hear him say “I loved it, thanks!” and instead he’ll just sit and eat it right away. Pay attention to those signs.

Another thing about this condition is that you can’t communicate with them using sarcasm, idioms or metaphors. Their way of interpretation is literal, don’t tell them to “Hit the sack” or “sit tight” on the couch, say the orders as they are: “It’s sleeping time”, “Wait for me right here, do not move”. Do not say “You’re the light of my life”, “Your mother is the apple of my eye”, say these instead: “You’re very important to me, and I love you”, “Your mother is someone beloved to me”. Speak clearly at all times, they will appreciate it.

Try to be in their shoes, they were born that way. If you’re here reading this is because you’re trying to understand what’s going on inside them. And because we know you love them as much as we do, our recommendation is that you contact Autism Soccer, their initiative has proven to be the best for your children, let them be free to enjoy and grow while exercising!
It may not look like it, but he's trying to communicate with you, in his own way.

Are You Reactive or Proactive in Your Parenting?

Parenting doesn't have to be a negative situation for any of you.

One day I was reading in a park and somehow I found myself watching a duality in parenting that baffled me. Right in front of me, two scenes unfolded after both parents bought their toddlers an ice-cone: a parent was dragging her child by the arm after the small girl got her t-shirt stained, while the other one was kneeling in and wiping their child’s t-shirt, that was stained too. It was amazing to see how two scenes that had the same origin could be so different. That alone made me wonder, what makes them different? With that in mind, I embarked on an investigative journey and I found out how those two persons differ and what exactly makes them different.

In parenting, there are two terms that are going to determine how you face the challenges that your child faces with you: reactive and proactive. These two terms can be present in the same person, but one of them will surely overpower the other and rule their behavior most of the time.

How’s a Reactive Parent?
The first kind of parent it’s the explosive kind, the one that will surely react like a lioness when their children are in danger, having that attitude all day long. Reactive parents are not always people that are in charge of the home, there can be a lack of stability and it often sets foot for a tense relationship between parent and child. This kind of parents rarely participate in an activity that doesn’t end up making them get their way. They are often labeled as passionate, and this behavior can be a deterrent for their child's interest, as they are overpowering most of the time.

How’s a Proactive Parent?
The second kind of parent is a more laid back kind, expressive but measured. While they are protective as every parent, their behavior is not dominated by their emotions. Thinking it through and allowing their child's room to express their own opinions is one of the things that they do incredibly well. This kind of parent is not only stable, but most of the time, their child will feel connected and safe enough to express themselves and letting their personality show. They take a more hands-on, practical approach to the lives of their child. Solutions are found without exploding, thus enabling their child to see a more laid back behavior when it comes to trouble.

What kind of parent are you? For both of them, there are many options when it comes to taking the approach to the life of their children. Passionate behavior while not entirely frowned upon, can generate an uncertain environment for the children.

Your reactions will guide your child.

3 Fun Ways to Spark your Child’s Imagination

Making a child feel happy and connected through handy work.

Children need to be prepared and have the necessary knowledge to face their everyday challenges. For that reason, teachers and parents alike prepare them academically. But what if I told you that one of the main tools for education in children’s lives is their own imagination? For many years, there was an ingrained belief that you could make children even more productive by taking out their wonderful capacity of wonder, but now that thought has been completely changed to be more in tune with the needs of the current times. With that in mind, more and more people have created a modern approach to the way we make children interact with the world and learn to make them feel more connected with academics and their own lives.

Imagination is one of the best ways to increase their engagement. They are imaginative, creative and incredibly brilliant when it comes to their surroundings and inner opinions. If you manage to cultivate those feelings and increase their chances at meeting other people, you are sure to be on your way to success when it comes to raising a child. In fact, I can assure you that you’ll never have to worry about how your child behaves if you create an environment that’s stimulant and varied with opportunities to express themselves. And I want to let you know three of the many alternatives you have for that:

Create a story time: Their minds are capable of creating a landscape out of a few words and you can make sure to offer them alternatives that will increase their chances of connecting with others through creativity. Tell them tales at bedtime, encourage the habit of reading or pick a time of the day to tell stories. I’m sure that you’ll see changes right away, as this puts a level of trust and connection with them by nature.

Construct at home: Building blocks that are apt for your children are great ways to make their creativity flow. It’s ideal for them to construct and build, knowing the step by step and finding ways to create with their hands. One of the perks of these blocks is that they can be configured in endless combinations without ever losing their visual interest.

What are you doing to spark your children’s imagination? I’m sure that you can do it in great and innovative ways without ever missing your chance of connecting with them. Another way to make their creativity and imagination grow is letting them practice with other children while making physical exercise, that also impulses their happy hormones up the charts. This is done through Autism Soccer, a great alternative for them to interact and exercise in a great environment.

Children who do work with their hands are more creative.

3 Tips on How to Become a Super Parent

Improve and work your way through your children's talent.

Parenting is not easy. In fact, being a parent is one of the hardest tasks anyone could assume nowadays, as it requires helping other human being become model citizens of the world. You are the force that will shape your kid's personality to reach their goals, to strive in the dire situations and to be kind and patient with others. But what happens when you have a child with special needs? Does it change the plans? Not at all! For parents with kids with special needs, the challenge is different in the journey, but the same in the end: to help shape the core personality of their child to make them part of the rest of the world in their unique way.

What’s a super parent?
Parenting itself is a challenge, but when you transform yourself into a super parent it’s a total game-changer. Super parenting is about being present in your child’s life, but on their level. Comprehension, attention, and love are the core values of a super parent because it’s more than just teaching them what's right and wrong, it’s about giving them challenges and techniques to face the world on their own. From asking them “what do you think that means?” when they ask questions, to helping them with their homework, but letting them do the job in their own terms. It’s important for parents to know that they are not doing anything wrong, but this particular technique of raising a child is about involving them in the world actively without being pushy.

These are three basic tips to be a super parent.
  • Encourage participation: Let your child know that they can participate freely in activities they desire, without feeling depressed. But remember, show them the wide spectrum and let them figure out their preferences on their own.
  • Ask questions: Parents need to encourage their child to think, and that’s what super parenting does. These people ask their child questions, let them process and venture their opinions.
  • Create fun routines: Children need to complete routines. In super parenting, you create them in a way that’s both interactive and motivational, helping them create their core personality with strong basis.
Prepare yourself and transform raising a child into a superhero story. Remember that through love and patience you can have them reach their goals in life while creating a bond that will stick with both of you forever. It’s always wonderful to see how you can build a happy environment for both of you by incorporating different things to spice up their life and to guide them in the right direction. That’s why in the activities that you create for them, it's vital to include physical activity, such as the one that they could do at Autism Soccer. It’s both participative and motivational for children, and it helps you interact with your kid in a great way!
Parents should be prepared to be the parents that their children need.

How to do Physical Therapy at home

You have to know how to help your children get the necessary physical therapy.

There are many situations in life when people need to do therapy. It is a way of recovering from certain traumas, both physical and psychological. Therapy uses tools and teaches us how to deal with the things that affect us. We can use it to learn to overcome obstacles that may come our way and to move on and live life to the fullest. There are different types of therapy, each specialized in a particular problem but each of these problems can have various ways of approaching them and tackling them. Many different things are considered therapeutic: some people prefer counseling, letting your feelings out and speaking with someone, some prefer working with animals, visiting different places, or working with a physiotherapist.

Therapy can be used to work on all sorts of problems. There's social therapy for people with anxiety and problems socializing with others. There's physical therapy for those who have suffered some kind of injury, and require help to get their mobility back. There's language therapy, learning skills therapy, psychological therapy, etc.

Most people think that in order to get therapy they need to go to a specific place like a health center or a school. But the truth is that there is also the possibility of doing therapy at home. There are plenty of specialists who will drive to a person's home to help them, and there are many benefits to this, as therapists are professionals specialized in helping others to become fully functional people again. Being at home creates a sense of comfort due to the familiar environment and the presence of family members. In some cases, home therapy is actually better than going to a Health Center. People with anxiety and socialization skills will do much better when they receive this help in a place that they feel comfortable in. Being in a safe place allows them to open up and makes the whole process a lot faster and more efficient. Some people just prefer to do therapy at home since they don't need to go through all the trouble of traveling from one place to another and then back. The Specialist to hire can help you by using the furniture in your house, they can help around with chores and be an extra pair of hands to help around.

We have all heard the phrase “There's no place like home” and there's a reason for that, and I don't mean the movie. Home is where we are most comfortable in, is where we feel the safest. It is where we want to be at the end of the day. Physical therapy is all about regaining strength and getting back to a healthy state of being, there's no place better to do that than home. For the kids of Autism Soccer, physical therapy, after any kind of injury playing sports, it's always better when it's done at home. These kids react better when they are in a familiar and comfortable place. They don't really like it when they have to visit new and strange places. Contact them now!
Pair physical therapy with another type of exercise, such as a sport. For example, soccer or yoga.

How to Handle Bullying to Prevent Children's Harassment

Bullying often happens in public settings, like schools.
Children tend to play rough by giving each other monikers, or playing handheld games which are, sometimes, part of their normal behavior. But what happens when those names and ‘friendly jokes’ are more mean-spirited? In those situations, when a joke stops being equal and it turns into a humiliation, it’s called “bullying”.

While this is a mild concern for most parents, for the ones with children with special needs, this is one of the most constant worries. What if their child’s life drastically change because of that targeted attack? It is known that one of the most frequent causes for kid’s psychological problems and bad behavior are bullying or harassment they might be receiving from other children.

What’s defined as “bullying”?

It’s defined as a targeted attack towards another person with an intention to harm, whether it is physical or psychological. In fact, ignoring a particular person is also recognized as a form of bullying. These behaviors can be shown by one or a group of kids and, most of the time, this happens without adults seeing it directly. Sometimes, children lead bullying to high levels and this might turn into targeted violence, which often leads to a long-lasting trauma for the ones who receive the attacks.

How to handle bullying or harassment?

As parents and caretakers, your obligation is to teach your children that they can ask you for help if they are being attacked. While teachers and other students see what happens in real time, it’s your job to identify the signs of your child is being bullied. Some of those are:

  • Personal items lost without explanation.
  • Sleeping problems.
  • Changes in personal habits.
  • Decreased appetite.
  • Loss of interest in personally enjoyable activities.
  • Faking illness.
  • Lesions (bruises and such).
  • Diminished self-esteem.

How to help them face bullying?

Once you’ve been able to identify the problem, it’s time to take action. Parents need to give alternatives to their children that will help them feel safer and more trusting of each of their companions at school or other activities. For that reason, it’s important to get to the root of the problem by identifying the bully and knowing why they are acting that way. That’s why it’s vital to get the help from professors and psychologists. In fact, most of the time, when this happens, children that are expressing aggression towards others were harmed that way in the past, or they are reflecting behaviors from home.

What can you do to help them?

  • Teach them they can count on you.
  • Let them know it’s ok to seek help.
  • Help them overcome the fear and show confidence.
  • Teach them to stand up to bullies the right way.
  • Involve bullies' parents.
  • Get assistance from professionals (professors and psychopedagogy).

You, as a parent, need to prepare yourself to deal with children when it comes to their personal safety. Make sure to have the right skills to help them deal with bullying, and help them overcome those situations. One of the things that might help your children overcome that frustration and bad emotions is playing a sport. That’s why you need to contact Autism Soccer. They have a team of people who help children reach their full potential regardless of their condition and, also, they help them gain trust and confidence to face the world after that stressful period.
You, as a parent, need to be aware of the signs that indicate children's harassment to make it stop.

Check This List to Know if you are a Toxic Parent

Sometimes parents don't know they are taking wrong attitudes when it comes to rasing their children.
Most of the time, parents need to think about the daily routines they do with their children to know how it influences in their kids’ lives. You, as an adult, are responsible for teaching them the right way to grow up with good values. Sometimes, you might think you are doing the right things, but then you realize that you don’t and it has consequences in your children’s lives. That’s why, you need to be sure that the actions you are taking are the right ones to avoid being a toxic parent.

What’s a toxic parent?

Although it’s a new term and, also, it’s not accepted by the medical setting, you must know that toxic parents are often characterized by negative behaviors which directly harm their children. This not only includes parents with alcohol problems, but also those who use bad words in front of their children. This might be accidental, but also bad words or actions might be behind the heavy jokes; and some kids, thanks to their innocence, don’t understand that it’s all about a game and they take it seriously.

What does a toxic parent do?

But beyond what they are, there are a few things that signalize their attitudes towards their children and other people when it comes to negative behaviors. That’s why I made this list for you to know what toxic parents do:

  • Laugh at them: Toxic parents often damage their children’s confidence by laughing at their actions and making them feel insecure.
  • They repress emotions: For humans it’s important to express their emotions and toxic parents often impulse their children to repress their feelings.
  • Don’t react constructively: Nocive parenting often includes crude behavior and scolding, instead of helping children build a better future for their lives.
  • They inspire fear and bully attitudes: Parents should inspire trust, but nocive parents only inspire fear by judging and yelling at their children.
  • Happiness is their children’s responsibilities: Usually, toxic parents believe that children are responsible for their own happiness. But what they don’t know is that they should guide their children to reach that happiness by their own.

Words have great power over people. For that reason, parents should be careful about what they say in front of their children. And not only words have that power, but also actions. If you and your partner have some arguments, don’t do it in front of them. For Autism Soccer is vital to establish a great system of interaction to foment a healthy communication and other habits by playing sports that will help your children’s lives in a positive way. What are you waiting for? Contact them now!
If you feel like your words are not conveying the right message, it might be time to ban some words from your vocabulary.
