What to do to Boost Your Child’s Appetite

Make your children love their meals. Make them enjoy the experience of eating instead of rejecting it.

Children's appetite is ever changing. Some days they’ll be more than willing to eat a piece of veggies than others, but other days they’ll be simply ravenous eating everything in front of them. As parents and caretakers, you need to prepare yourself for those moments and make sure that they are always motivated to eat what's on their plates to have the energy to do the tasks that they have to do with a smile on their face. For that, there are some tips that you can implement to ensure that their appetites are boosted to keep them healthy and full throughout the day.

What to do to make that happen? Here are some bits of helpful advice that all parents can take advantage of!

  • Start the day correctly: Breakfast is a must, and you should not avoid it. It works to open their appetite and increase their energy right off the bat. Remember to serve them within an hour after they wake up.

  • Incorporate citrus fruits: Oranges, limes, passionfruits, and strawberries open children’s appetite during the day. Incorporate fresh juices in their diet to boost their cravings for other meals.

  • Combine their favorites with other foods: If your kid loves chicken and you want to incorporate veggies in their diet, combine bits of the protein with good looking veggies. Omelets are a great option for this.

  • Add appetite openers to their diet: Children are not prone to eat certain things but some foods like cinnamon, coriander, and such, are great to boost their appetite. Use them to spice up their meals.

  • Prepare fruit snacks: children love to eat dessert and that’s a fact. The best way to give them snacks throughout the day without spoiling their appetite is by giving them fruits.

  • Physical activity: Doing some sort of sport is bound to increase their appetite throughout the day, as it drains their energy and their body needs to replenish their storage of proteins and other important elements.

What are you doing to boost your child’s appetite? It’s important to make sure that children have a healthy menu at hand for them to get the right nutrients for a correct development. At Autism Soccer they encourage parents and caretakers to prepare meals for the children to have the necessary energy to practice sports, as they know their body needs fuel to work efficiently and enjoy any activities!

How Many Meals Should Your Child Have Per Day?

Nourishing your children's bodies and minds is essential. Teach them the importance of having the right meals during the day!
Children need to be correctly nourished to have a proper development. And while most parents and doctors agree on the nutrients they should have in their diet, there’s a problem that ails these people: how many times a day should they eat? The truth is that when it comes to the amount of time between meals, there’s no real consensus because every kid has a particular need. You have to think of your children’s particular needs when it comes to their nourishment. That’s why I’m here to let you know how you can work on your children’s diet to make it perfect for them.

How to determine the amount of meals your children need
Children's dietary habits change according to their nutritional particular needs, as well as levels of activity during the day. Ideally, they should have all the ingredients on a balanced diet per plate, like proteins, vegetables and carbohydrates. You have to consider this to generate the correct amount of meals for their day-to-day. Also, take these things into consideration:

  1. Physical activity: Frequently, children that do exercise need to have more proteins in their diets, as well as other nutrients that will help them have the correct energy levels.
  2. Individual dietary needs: Take into consideration your children’s particular needs when it comes to nutrition. Some children require more vitamins than others.
  3. Digestive system: Children that are prone to problems with their tummies, need to have more fiber into their diets.
  4. Routines: Think about the things your children does per day: the amount of hours they spend awake, free times, rest periods, and among other things. Define these routines and work with them in order to generate a better meal plan for them.

The ideal amount of meals per day
Paediatricians consider that children should have several meals throughout the day when it comes to fulfilling their dietary needs. More than creating a healthy menu for children, parents and caretakers need to consider the times of the day where meals are more needed. These are the meals that should be in your children’s menu during the day:

  1. Strong foods: Breakfast, lunch and dinner are the main meals, that’s why you have to use a strong menu for each children:
  1. Breakfast: Make your kids eat their breakfast between 30 minutes and 1 hour after waking up. Let them know that this is the most important meal for children, because it gives them the proper energy to start the day.
  2. Lunch: Incorporate proteins and carbohydrates, and make sure that the food is light and nutritious.
  3. Dinner: This meal should be light, that’s why it’s important to be fresh with ingredients that are not going to disturb their sleep pattern.

  1. Snacks: Kids should have a snack between their breakfast and lunch, and between their lunch and dinner.
  1. Midmorning: This meal is good to prepare your kids for the lunch. Use fruits and other small but nutritious ingredients. Avoid using sweets.
  2. Midafternoon: Your kids should have smoothies, light sandwiches and bowls of fruits, which are great for their health.

You need to take into consideration the fact that children that do sports need more protein in their diets to help them replenish their energy. That why Autism Soccer encourages parents to create diets for their children, so it helps them develop and enjoy each day of training. What are you waiting for? Contact them now!

Why is it Important to Stay Hydrated?

Teach your children the importance of drinking water. It will create a lifelong habit that will increase their health.
The 70% of the human body is composed by liquids. They are important for the proper functioning of the human body. Also, you need to know that the chances of dying by lack of water are incredibly high. When you’re dehydrated, your cells stop working correctly, because there’s no enough water for them to do their natural process. It not only causes problems in cells, but also some physiological functions, like toxin elimination, can stop being efficient, causing some damage to your organs. That’s why I’ve pulled a list with the reason of the importance of staying hydrated:

  • It combats fatigue: When you are hydrated, there’s less chance of feeling fatigue. When your whole body has the right amount of liquid to work correctly, you usually have more energy, and a better mood.
  • It helps with digestion: The digestive process works with 90 litres of liquid. This helps with the functioning of the body.
  • It reduces cardiovascular risks: Anxiety and stress are silent killers. That’s why, you need to drink enough water, because it helps to reduce the production of cholesterol and increase the blood flow.
  • It increases toxin elimination: Your body requires water to filter the toxins. Keeping yourself hydrated speeds up this process, making it more efficient.

What you can do to stay hydrated

  • Carry a bottle of water: My recommendation is to use a big bottle of water, that’s how you can be hydrated when you’re not at home.
  • Drink water when you’re hungry: Most of the time, our body sends signs of what it needs. If you feel a tad hungry, drink a glass of water, it can often solve the anxiety.
  • Drink juice: Also, you can drink juice. It not only is refreshing but also it’s healthy.

Now that you know why it’s important to stay hydrated, put it into practice. Furthermore, you can apply these steps on your children. Infusions, sorbets and even fruit like watermelon work great as ways to hydrate without having to recur to plain water. Remember to keep your child healthy by following these steps, and also, healthy by practicing some sports with  Autism Soccer. I’m sure that your kid will be happy!
People can chose different alternatives to stay hydrated, but plain water is the best.

What to Eat Before and After Exercise?

If they are well-nourished, they will enjoy more every activity they do.
We all know how important and impactful it is to do physical exercise, not only for releasing the so-called ‘happiness’ hormones but also to increase our overall health. Integral activities increase heart health, pulmonary capacity, muscular resistance, bone strength and improves the immunologic system, making us feel healthy and strong. But while it’s great to do exercise, most people forget that for physical activity to work it needs to be paired with balanced meals to give the body the nourishment it needs to take advantage of all the benefits. In fact, there’s a whole counter-culture of people that firmly believe that skipping meals is the way to go to take a turn in the slimmer direction but in order to be healthy you need to eat correctly. However, as I said before, there’s much more to exercise than just weight loss. Children with special needs are prone to suffer from cholesterol or muscular problems depending on their particular condition. That’s why it is important for parents and caretakers to know how essential it is to eat healthy food after doing any physical activity.

Why do you need to eat?
There’s a firm belief that if you drastically reduce the intake of food when you start to incorporate  a physical activity into your routine, it will make you healthier. This is a lie that can lead to terrible consequences, like the rebound effect because you are putting your body under strain and it will take the necessary measures to avoid going into organic stress, saving up the extra food that you provide and creating more fat deposits on your body which are harder to shade away. It also impacts the hormone liberation process of the body, as it will take this as an emergency state and it will react differently. That’s why you need to make sure your child eats the right amount of food before and after exercise. Now I’m about to give you some subsections on what to eat before and after doing physical activities.

Eating BEFORE doing physical activity
Their bodies are going to need protein to increase energy levels. While it can take some from the liver, the idea is to eat a complex carbohydrate and protein snack before doing exercise to make sure they have the necessary nutritional elements for the body to enough power. That way they’ll enjoy the physical activity while not impacting negatively their health.

Best alternatives:
  • Yogurt
  • Broccoli
  • Oatmeal
  • Trail Mix
  • Smoothies
  • Bananas
  • Apples

Eating AFTER doing physical activity
After they practice a sport, they’ll need to replenish their fuel deposits and protein replacement is the first step that has to be done. It needs to be consumed in the first 30 minutes after they do physical activity. While you are doing it, your body is burning the reservoirs of glycogen, and if you don’t reincorporate them into your organism, your body will take it from the muscle reserves, causing damage in the long run. For this reason, you need to eat and drink liquid to incorporate these nutritional elements to your system right away.

Best alternatives:
  • Grilled chicken breasts.
  • Quinoa
  • Black bean salad
  • Peanut butter and whole grain toast
  • Protein smoothies
  • Tuna and spinach salad
  • Chocolate drinks

Now that you know the importance of eating before and after doing exercise, you can be sure that it will have a positive impact on your child’s health. Teach them they how crucial it is for their body to be full of energy when they practice any sport. That’s why Autism Soccer encourages parents and caretakers to incorporate healthy snack options in their kid’s menu for them to have the energy to enjoy themselves while playing soccer in a great environment!
If kids are going to do exercise, they need to have their body full of nutrients and vitamins in order to have the required energy.

Probiotics and Autism: a Beneficial Relationship

These are microorganisms that help improve digestion, and studies have shown their benefits in other areas.

One of the main concerns for parents of children with special need is that they feel comfortable and go about their lives with the best energy and one why they could feel like their energy is going down might be because of the nourishments. Scientific studies have revealed the overall stomachal and intestinal health have a great impact on the mood and disposition of people to do something, as well as their energy levels. This is especially delicate when it comes to children with special needs, as they are more than likely to reflect those small affectations in the way they react to the world. In fact, for kids who have problems interpreting and connecting with others, such as autistic and ADD children, the evidence is pointing to correlations with tummy problems. That’s why people are getting used to the consumption of probiotics as a palliative for these disturbances in hopes to alleviate the intestinal symptoms.

The relationship between probiotics and overall health has been part of the medical knowledge for long, but for most people, it started to buzz as a solution after certain studies proved how beneficial they were for the body. In fact, little do people know about the importance of microorganisms in our metabolism: most of our digestive system is filled with beneficial types of bacteria that help process and gather the nutrients in the food we consume. These bacteria are there since birth, transmitted by the mother as a mechanism to develop a healthy organism. Maybe the most shocking fact is not a few of them cohabitate with us, but at least a trillion of them compose the overall digestive tract microbiome. This microbial rapport we develop with them is the reason why people have devoted their time to study how these small living entities affect our health and why there’s a direct relationship between the amount and nature of said microorganisms and the conditions that affect brain development.

Without the proper amount, or simply by having more of the bad bacteria (in which the correct term is “dysbiosis”), anyone’s whole constitution can be affected: whether it is their sleeping patterns, their health, their defenses or simply a great affectation to their overall mood. Those are just a few reasons why doctors have decided to take the leap of faith and use the knowledge they have gathered to treat children with conditions in the autistic spectrum. It has proved to be a beneficial treatment for intestinal problems that often accompany these conditions. This, in turn, helps them feel less anxious and stressed, alleviating these symptoms and helping them relate to others in a more relaxed state, allowing them to enjoy the interactions with the world and diminishing overwhelming feelings.

If you want to have another option to alleviate their condition while helping them free their stress, you can take your kid to Autism Soccer. They can offer advice in more than just the practice of this sport, as they have a great support system that helps them comprehend and handle with care and devotion  every child’s particular requirements. Scientists have proved that the consumption of probiotics improves stomach problems related to autism and other conditions.
